Object history
Deutsch: Das von Waldemar Mallek entworfene Wappen wurde am 18. Mai 1982 durch den Landkreis Emsland genehmigt. Der Birkhahn steht für den früher hohen Bestand an Birkwild auf den Hochmoorflächen. Als Hinweis auf die früher sieben selbständigen Gemeinden – heute die sieben Ortsteile – sind sieben Buchweizenfrüchte auf dem Schildfuß des Wappens dargestellt. Die Farbe Schwarz soll an den dunklen Moorgrund und das Gelb an die Farbe des Erdöles erinnern, das seit dem Jahre 1948 im Gebiet der Gemeinde gefördert wird.
English: This coat of arms was created by Waldemar Mallek and granted by the district of Emsland on 18 May 1982.
