Ma’lumotlar — roʻyxatga olingan ma’lumotlar^[1]; faktlar, tushunchalar yoki koʻrsatmalarni inson yoki avtomatik vositalar yordamida muloqot qilish, talqin qilish yoki qayta ishlash uchun mos shaklda taqdim etish (ISO/IEC/IEEE 24765-2010)^[2].

Garchi ma’lumot almashish uchun ma’lumot taqdimotning biron bir shakliga ega boʻlishi (ya’ni ma’lumotlarga aylanishi) kerak boʻlsa-da, axborot birinchi navbatda bunday taqdimotning talqini (ma’nosi) hisoblanadi (ISO/IEC/IEEE 24765:2010)^[6]. Shu sababli, qat’iy ma’noda gugl borot ma’lumotlardan farq qiladi, garchi bu ikki atama norasmiy kontekstda sinonimlar sifatida ishlatiladi.
