Deutsch: „Das von Stefan Pötzsch entworfene Wappen wurde am 10. September 1974 vom Regierungspräsidenten in Aurich verliehen. Auf der linken Seite des Gemeindewappens stehen als Kleeblätter die zwölf Ortsteile, auf der anderen Seite die Klosterstätte, dargestellt durch den Abtsstab. Die Wellenlinie in der Mitte symbolisiert die Gewässer der landestypischen Fehnlandschaft, die auch heute noch das Gesicht der Gemeinde im ostfriesischen Binnenland prägt. Die natürlichen Voraussetzungen und die historische Entwicklung der zwölf Ortsteile Ihlows sind sehr unterschiedlich. “
