TaʼrifRooting pig north of the North Bentley Inclosure, New Forest - geograph.org.uk - 123536.jpg
English: Rooting pig north of the North Bentley Inclosure, New Forest. This pig was one of three rooting for food along the strip of open Forest between the North Bentley Inclosure (to the south) and Fritham farmland (to the north). Some commoners have the right to turn out pigs on the unenclosed Forest. The bank behind the pig once marked the northern boundary of the North Bentley Inclosure, but during the felling and coniferisation of the 1930s a strip of 18th century oaks (such as the one behind the pig) were left along the northern edge, probably as a cosmetic screen.
