Alligator barabanlari sharqdagi zamonaviy Shandongdan gʻarbdagi Tsinxaygacha boʻlgan neolit davridagi keng maydonda topilgan boʻlib, ular miloddan avvalgi 5500-2350 yillarga tegishli. Adabiy yozuvlarda barabanlar shamanistik xususiyatlarni namoyon etgan va koʻpincha marosimlarda ishlatilgan. [1] Tantanali foydalanish uchun alligator terisi bilan qoplangan barabanlar Shijingda eslatib o'tilgan. [2][3][4]

Oʻtmishda alligatorlar Xitoyning sharqiy qirgʻoqlarida, shu jumladan janubiy Shandong provensiyasida yashagan. Alligator terisi bilan qoplangan yogʻoch ramkadan iborat eng qadimgi alligator barabanlari Dawenkoudagi arxeologik yodgorliklarda va Longshanning bir nechta joylarida topilgan.

Alligator barabanining odatiy akustik xususiyatlari quyidagilardan iborat: chastota: 4100–2600 Gts, amplituda: 3000–2000 dB va to'lqin uzunligi: 2300–1900 Gts. [5]
