Formula 5000 1968-yilda SCCA Formula A poygalari doirasida taqdim etilgan boʻlib, bu seriyada turli bir oʻrindiqli poyga mashinalari qatnashishi mumkin edi, lekin tez orada ishlab chiqarishga asoslangan Amerika V8 avtomobillari bilan jihozlangan avtomobillar ustunlik qila boshladi. Buyuk Britaniyada Cosworth DFV dvigatelining paydo boʻlishi endi koʻplab jamoalar yaxshi dvigatel/transmissiya paketi atrofida oʻz shassilarini qurish imkoniyatiga ega boʻlishlarini anglatardi, shuning uchun Cooper, Lotus va Brabham buyurtmachi Formula 1 avtomobillarini ishlab chiqarishni toʻxtatdilar. Afsuski, Buyuk Britaniyaning chempionatdan tashqari F1 musobaqalarida qatnashgan kichikroq shaxsiy jamoalari yaxshi natija qayd etishmadi va natijada mamlakatdagi RAC kompaniyasi tezda Amerika F5000 qoidalarini qabul qildi[2][3].

Avstraliya va Yangi Zelandiya tahrir

Avstraliya va Yangi Zelandiyada yillik Tasman seriyasiga mos avtomobillarni belgilovchi Tasman formulasi 1970-yilda Formula 5000 avtomobillari hamda mavjud 2,5 litrli avtomobillarni oʻz ichiga olgan holda kengaytirildi[4]. Tasman seriyasi Formula 1 tomonidan Yevropada qish boʻlgan paytda o‘tkazilgan va 1960-yillarda u mahalliy aholidan Jack Brabham, Denny Hulme, Bruce McLaren, Chris Amon, Graham Hill, Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart, Phil Hill, Piers Courage va Jochen Rindt kabi Gran-pri poygalaridagi eng buyuk nomlarni kashf qildi.
