Ushbu talqin rus shaxmat ustasi Semyon Alapin (1856—1923) sharafiga nomlangan. Koʻp yillar davomida ushbu yurish mashhur boʻlmagan, chunki 2…d5 yurishidan soʻng qoralar oson tenglikka erishadi deb hisoblangan[1][2].

Bugungi kunda Alapin eng mustahkam va mashhur anti-sitsiliyancha yurishlardan biri hisoblanadi. Bugungi kunda Alapindan Yevgeniy Sveshnikov, Eduardas Rozentalis, Sergey Tiviakov, Dushko Pavasovich va Drajen Sermek kabi grossmeysterlar foyalanadi. Magnus Karlsen 2023-yilgi FIDE Jahon kubogida Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaaga qarshi taybreykda oʻynadi.
